„GM gyvai”: what, how and why?

Non-profit organization “Gera Muzika Gyvai” was established in 2006 and during the last couple of years intensively promotes the world music style, and every month for Vilnius and Kaunas audience they present one of this unique style music performance.

We innovatively look at world music cuisine and without the equivalent in both Lithuania and Eastern Europe, we try to acquaint the audience with other cultures and their musical horizons, to raise awareness and improve the nations, races, mutual tolerance and to strengthen people's unity.

We’ve started from blues, jazz and other musical styles, now dedicating all our efforts to introduce to the listeners of Lithuania quite a new world music genre. World music for the first time as an independent style of music was named in 1980, it covers both Western-sounding traditional music of different nations, as well as European or North American melodies, enriched with elements of ethnic music. The world has become so small that music of different cultures began to mix with each other giving us new accords and unexpected discoveries.

„GM gyvai“ to Lithuanian audience presents only professional and very interesting artists from the farthest corners of the world. . Colombia, Mali, the Comoros Islands, Brazil, Tuva, Zimbabwe - these just a small part of the countries, whose were already invited for Lithuanian music lovers.Over the time, we are increasingly becoming the community: working with various companies, cultural institutes and centres, embassies. Our audience is very diverse: here you can meet students and a lot of business leaders - all who want to discover something new in music. We do not forget the youngest: to see live world's music stars we invite the smallest children's home residents and in our activities we invite Lithuanian students.

An interesting, enriching music, positive atmosphere, good emotions, new contacts and discoveries - it has become the tradition of „GM gyvai“and our visiting card. In the future we are going to do even more: our heads full of ideas and plans - we are sure that together we can do a lot.
