Fuzzrider (Greece)

No joke, these guys are on their way – time to hit the road with Harley! A band of this style has never before played at the Kaunas Blues festival. And yet, they fit right in – their music is firmly rooted in the blues, once again proving the genre’s versatility and the many musical directions it nourishes. Fuzzrider is a heavy rock – more precisely, heavy blues rock – outfit from a country not usually associated with such sounds: Greece. Music that would feel at home in stoner rock and metal circles will this time shake the stage in Kaunas.

The band’s story is fairly recent. In 2021, on the island of Aegina, three seasoned Greek rockers – Jim Lord (formerly of Lord 13, Madleaf), Nikos Giannoulis (One Man Drop, Nochnoy Dozor), and Brian Velentzas (Captain Brian) – came together, dedicating themselves to playing bluesy, heavy, and at times psychedelia-tinged rock. After warming up in the studio, Fuzzrider quickly moved on to live shows and began building their reputation – first in Greece, and now across Europe and the USA. Their self-titled debut album Fuzzrider was released in 2023, and the band is already preparing its follow-up.

Fuzzrider music is bound to strike a chord with classic rock fans. It’s heavy, low, and dirty – clearly inspired by Black Sabbath, and perhaps also by contemporaries such as Blue Cheer, Pentagram, or Leaf Hound. Dense yet melodic, it hooks the listener with powerful guitar riffs that refuse to let you sit still. There are hypnotic, psychedelic passages, and even touches of Middle Eastern motifs that surface in calmer tracks. One music critic aptly described it all as a “desert sound.” Indeed, the blues can take you on some unexpected journeys.

Line-up:
Jim Lord – guitar, vocals
Nick Giannoulis – bass
Brian Velentzas – drums

Tia Carroll / Oscar Wilson / Quique Gómez / Luca Giordano

A Blues Journey from Chicago to San Francisco

Good old-school electric blues with a soulful prima donna at the forefront – unafraid to weave in touches of soul – never fails to win over audiences at any blues event or festival. This format radiates both authenticity and power. And what if, alongside that prima donna, you have a seasoned bluesman from Chicago, with the blues running through his veins? That’s exactly the combination we’ll hear at Kaunas Blues 2025: Americans Tia Carroll and Oscar Wilson joining forces for a special performance, backed by harmonica virtuoso Quique Gómez and master guitarist Luca Giordano from Italy.

Tia Carroll, born in Richmond, California, began singing as a child, as is often the case with great blues artists, though her professional music career took shape later. Her first band, Yakety Yak, played rock, but it helped her grow more confident as a performer. Eventually she dove deeper into the blues after being invited to sing with veteran Jimmy McCracklin’s band. From there, she emerged as the leader of her own group and established herself in the blues world as a powerhouse vocalist and a charismatic presence on stage.

Oscar Wilson is a Chicago bluesman whose childhood home was visited by legends like Elmore James, Honeyboy Edwards, Little Mack Simmons, and Big Smokey Smothers. He started his musical journey in the 1980s, balancing music with all sorts of side jobs, but after the 2000s fully devoted himself to the blues. Writing and performing his own material in the classic Chicago electric blues style, Wilson quickly earned his reputation as a serious torchbearer and interpreter of the tradition. Strong, rich, and authentic – that’s the sound of Oscar Wilson.

Joining them are two acclaimed musicians in their own right. Spanish harmonica player Quique Gómez began his career in his homeland before moving to Chicago to play with local bluesmen, eventually carving out a reputation as an expressive performer unafraid of jazzy twists. Italian guitarist Luca Giordano, already a familiar face in Lithuania, is a leader on his country’s blues scene and fronts the Luca Giordano Band. His fiery solos and dynamic riffs light up every stage. Together with Carroll and Wilson, this combination promises an unforgettable show.

Line-up:
Tia Carroll – vocals
Oscar Wilson – vocals
Quique Gómez – harmonica, vocals
Luca Giordano – guitar
David Salvador – bass
Guillaume Destarac – drums

Delgres (Guadeloupe)

Caribbean Blues! Blues that looks back to its roots while boldly facing the future, freely blending with the sounds of other cultures (here we hear Africa, America, France) – these are the first impressions when listening to the Guadelupan - French group Delgres, who will perform in the evening program of Kaunas Blues 2025. At once, the powerful rhythm, hypnotic guitar, brass, and a deep, commanding voice capture your attention.

The band was born from the meeting of two musicians: Pascal Danaë, a descendant of Guadeloupeans (the Caribbean island belonging to France), and drummer Baptiste Brondy. Coming from very different backgrounds – Baptiste from a sophisticated musical world, having sat behind the drums since the age of three and performed with countless well-known artists, and Pascal, the son of an electrician who loved rock music – they complemented each other perfectly. The role of mediator fell to brass specialist Raphaël Gouthiere. The result was what they themselves call Caribbean blues.

In 2018, Delgres released their debut album Mo Jodi, followed by 4:AM in 2021 and Promis le ciel in 2024. Together, these can be seen as a triptych – addressing colonial history as a whole, the story of Pascal’s Guadeloupean ancestors (a story marked by slavery and suffering), and the injustices of the present day. The very name Delgres carries a strong message, honoring Louis Delgrès, a Guadeloupe hero of the early 19th century who fought against the reintroduction of slavery by Napoleon Bonaparte, ultimately dying tragically and becoming a national symbol of resistance, freedom, and human dignity.

Delgres’ conceptual depth – weaving together Africa, Europe, and America – shines richly in their music. Pascal’s guitar, played in open tunings borrowed from Delta blues, mesmerizes, while echoes of West Africa surface in its tones. It’s no surprise he names both Skip James and Ali Farka Touré as inspirations. His voice conveys not only pain but also resilience and pride. Baptiste’s drums add to the hypnotic power, while the sousaphone lifts the sound into celestial dimensions. It is no wonder that Delgres are gaining global recognition – and deservedly so.

Line-up:
Pascal Danaë – vocals, guitar
Baptiste Brondy – drums
Rafgee – sousaphone

Robert Finley (USA)

The sensation of 2025 – a true gift to the audience of Kaunas Blues. No blues festival can go without the true purists. There simply has to be at least one performer from the homeland of the genre – the Southern states of America, or the Mecca of electric blues – Chicago. A bluesman or a blues lady radiating authenticity, power, and lived experience. Someone with a glowing aura above their head, as if declaring: “The blues lives in me.” That’s exactly the kind of artist Robert Finley is – a true gift to the audience of Kaunas Blues 2025.

Born in 1954 in Louisiana – one of the most important states for American music, where blues, early jazz, gospel, and French influences intertwined – the future bluesman felt drawn to music from an early age, singing and playing guitar. One of his first serious musical experiences came while serving in the army (where he worked as a helicopter technician), performing blues and soul standards with a band. His musical path was far from straightforward – for many years he worked as a carpenter, but when his eyesight deteriorated and forced him to give up that trade, Robert devoted himself fully to music. At first, this meant playing in a few clubs and on the streets. Eventually, in 2015, he was noticed – even discovered – after performing at a festival, which led to the release of his debut album in 2016. From then on, a completely new chapter began in Robert Finley’s life.

In this new chapter, the bluesman has released four albums in total (with later works created in collaboration with Dan Auerbach, leader of the acclaimed blues-rock band The Black Keys), most of them featuring his own songs. Each one tells authentic stories from a colorful life – childhood picking cotton, hardships of moving to the city, love and heartbreak, the light and dark sides of the journey so far. From a purely musical perspective, it is impossible to overlook his remarkable voice, at times soaring into falsetto, at others deep, raw, and powerful. Finley feels equally at home in blues, gospel, or soul. These styles blend seamlessly in his music, gaining extra power from the young, talented musicians who perform alongside him. The result is music where authenticity, experience, strength, and youthful energy come together in full force.

Line-up:
Robert Finley – vocals
Christy Johnson – backing vocals
Liam Hart – guitar
Oliver Hopkins – bass
Charlie Love – drums
